Rickett’s Glen Trip July 3, 2015

So I know I am going back a few months, but since I am just starting this blog I wanted to share with you some of our trips we took over the summer. One thing I really love is waterfalls. When I say love, that may be a bit of an understatement! Obsessed may be closer to the proper word. Back in June I was telling my coworker how I would love to see, and capture as many waterfalls as I possibly can. I asked her if she knew of any local area waterfalls and she suggested Rickett’s Glen State Park. I googled it and I immediately wanted to be there. I wanted to be there yesterday! Rickett’s Glen is a national natural landmark. It is located in Benton, PA and the park features 22 named waterfalls. I heard 22 waterfalls in the same location and I was in heaven thinking about it! The park is over 13,000 acres and is located in three different counties. I told my husband that night that we were going to plan a trip there for 4th of July weekend. Now listen, we were not very outdoorsy people to begin with. Don’t get me wrong, we love the outdoors, but we are not active runners, hikers, or walkers for that matter. I know, I know, it’s good to get out and exercise, and exercise is what we did! I guess I did not take into consideration the actual time, energy and distance it would be to see 19 of the 22 falls. Phew, what a hike! I tell you what I am glad we at least went prepared like we were avid hikers, ha ha. We took a backpack with plenty of water, some towels, bug spray and some other necessities as well as some good shoes, my camera and we were off! It took us between 4.5 to 5 hours to make the hike. We hiked for about 7 miles I believe. Let me tell you, it was a hot day but thankfully there was a lot of shade from the trees. My husband kept asking if I wanted to turn around when I would stop to sit for a bit and I kept telling him there was no way. The last thing I was going to do was go back and see the same waterfalls again, I wanted to photograph them all, and I did! It was definitely out of our usual routines, but it was the best hike I have ever been on in my life, I’ll tell you that! It was worth every second! I hope you enjoy my images of the falls.

P.S. The next day we took a trip to World’s End State Park which is within 20 miles from Rickett’s, some of the images below will be of the lookouts at World’s End. The sprawling mountains were beautiful. It was a rainy day though. Check out more info on these parks out at the links below.
