Well back in August my stepmom, my husband and I all took a road trip down to Alabama to visit my stepmom’s mother. We drove straight through the whole 22 hour drive, only stopping for bathroom breaks and to sleep for a little while. Our biggest stop was an hour long as we were parked on Interstate 81 in Roanoke, VA at 1am due to a horrible accident. Needless to say I did not get many pictures on the way down, and barely got any while actually in Alabama. Two days after we arrived, my husband and I drove over to Florida. We started out by going to the Pensacola Lighthouse Museum which was located on a Naval Base. The lighthouse has been there for a long time and there is a lot of history. I wanted to go to check it out because I wanted to get photos from the top. Well 177 steps later, I finally made it to the top. I felt like I was going to die, it was so hot! As I said in my previous post I am not much of an exercise lover, and I also don’t do well with the heat but I made it up all of those stairs because I was determined to get that view from the top! It was worth it, for sure! Here are a few images from the top of the lighthouse, and the beach right by the lighthouse……..
After that we headed over to Pensacola beach and snorkeled there for a bit. We then headed to our final destination of Destin, Florida. We stayed at a really nice Holiday Inn right outside of Destin in Fort Walton Beach and we were walking distance to a pier that goes out into the ocean 1/4 mile. It’s called the Okaloosa Island Fishing Pier. This pier is so popular that it has it’ own website! We absolutely loved spending time out on the pier, and probably would have been happy to spend the whole entire day there if we had not had plans for all of the snorkeling, parasailing and dolphin tours we went on. The pier offered wonderful views of some awesome creatures and gorgeous sunsets! We even got up one morning to catch the sunrise. Here are some images I captured while on the pier. I actually captured two birds fighting over a fish on the pier! Too cool!
All in all it was a really great trip and we saw a lot of stuff in the short time we were there. It was my husband’s first time ever going to Florida so we made the most of our time. Here are some other random images I captured along the way.
And let’s not forget these photos captured while in Mississippi……
